About

The Voice of the American Legion

In 1946, there were 16.1 Million Veterans in the United States and a total population of 124M. Today, there are 15.6M Veterans but the population has almost tripled to over 340 Million. Rather than have our voices diminished by two-thirds, our voice is as effective as ever thanks to the exceptional work of our Veteran’s Service Organizations.

Continuing Service

The American Legion is the world’s largest Veterans organization with over 1.3 million members working through ~13,000 community level posts.  Our members have honorably served the United States in uniform and continue to serve their communities through the “pillars” of the Legion.

Since its creation in 1919, The American Legion has been built on 4 foundational pillars; Veteran’s Affairs, National Security, Americanism, Children & Youth.

Post 116

and local Posts across the country focus on our communities and the pillars of Americanism and Youth. This can be anything from Retiring American Flags to getting involved with Scouts and Little League baseball.
